Orange seed oil, obtained from the seeds of the sweet orange (Citrus sinensis), is a rare and valuable botanical oil with a growing reputation in natural skincare, hair care, and cosmetic formulations. While the sweet orange is primarily known for its fragrant essential oil extracted from the peel, the seeds of the fruit yield a nutrient-rich carrier oil with remarkable emollient and protective properties. Lightweight, golden, and subtly aromatic, orange seed oil is a sustainable ingredient because it is derived from by-products of the juice industry, turning waste into a high-value cosmetic material.

The sweet orange tree (Citrus sinensis) is one of the most widely cultivated fruit trees in the world, cherished for its juicy fruits and sweet, citrusy aroma. Each orange contains numerous seeds, which are typically discarded during juice production. However, through cold pressing or supercritical CO₂ extraction, these seeds can be transformed into a golden oil rich in essential fatty acids, tocopherols, and plant sterols. This makes orange seed oil not only beneficial for personal care but also environmentally responsible, aligning with clean beauty and zero-waste movements.

Skin Care Benefits:

1. Deep Hydration and Barrier Support:

Thanks to its high linoleic acid content, orange seed oil helps restore the skin’s natural barrier, preventing water loss and keeping skin supple. It is especially beneficial for dry, sensitive, or mature skin, but its balanced composition makes it suitable for most skin types.

2. Antioxidant and Anti-Aging Effects:

Orange seed oil is naturally rich in Vitamin E and plant sterols, which neutralize free radicals and protect against environmental damage. This can reduce the appearance of fine lines, improve elasticity, and support a youthful complexion.

3. Soothing and Calming Properties:

Linoleic acid and phytosterols contribute to anti-inflammatory action, helping to reduce redness, calm irritation, and balance stressed skin.

4. Lightweight and Non-Greasy Absorption:

Unlike heavier oils such as cocoa or coconut, orange seed oil absorbs quickly and leaves behind a silky finish. Its comedogenic rating is estimated at 1–2, meaning it has a low likelihood of clogging pores.

Hair and Scalp Benefits:

-Moisturizes the scalp to reduce dryness and flakiness.
-Nourishes hair strands, adding softness and shine.
-Helps to control frizz and protect hair from environmental stress.
-Lightweight texture makes it ideal for leave-in serums or as part of hair masks.

Main constituents of fatty acids:

1) Linoleic Acid: 50%
2) Oleic Acid: 30%
3) Palmitic Acid: 10%
4) Alpha-Linolenic Acid: 7.00%
5) Stearic Acid: 3%

Comodogenic index:

-Comedogenic level 0: it is non-comedogenic and does not cause pore clogging.
-Comedogenic level 1: there is a small (very low) possibility that the ingredient is comedogenic and may clog pores.
-Comedogenic level 2: in most cases, it will not clog pores. The possibility that it may clog pores is moderate to low.
