Lawson Cypress belongs to the genus Chamaecyparis, the false cypress, related to the Japanese Hinoki. It is an evergreen native to the United States, from the northern area of California and southern Oregon. It is a highly valued tree in reforestation, since it is resistant to fire.
The essential oil has been used as a bioherbicide, larvicide, antifungal and antibacterial. For relief of headaches, colds, coughs and bronchitis, it has an active compound: Quercetin that inhibits the contraction of smooth muscle.

The research link in the source about airway smooth muscle and quercetin does not establish a benefit of this steam-distilled wood oil. Quercetin is non-volatile and should not be assumed to occur in a distilled essential oil.

- Use as a base-note modifier and fixative in woody, resinous and aromatic structures.
- Begin at a low level and increase only after evaluating the drydown.
