The Mugo Pine is a type of small pine, between 3 to 6 meters (10 to 20 feet). Native to the central and southern mountainous areas of Europe, from the Spanish and French Pyrenees, to the high mountains of the Balkans. It has been spreading throughout many areas of the world, and is currently widely distributed in the high and cold areas of North America. Pine syrup is extracted from its buds, as they drip a type of syrup that is highly appreciated for its flavor.

Of all the pines it is the one that has the sweetest and most delicate aroma. It is used in perfumery, soaps, and cosmetics to give a common balsamic and woody aroma with a spicy undertone.
In aromatherapy, pine has been widely used for its refreshing, stimulating and invigorating properties. It is antiseptic, deodorant and insect repellent. It is used to relieve various respiratory disorders.
