Engelmann Spruce is an evergreen, native to the western Rocky Mountains of the United States. It is a conifer that grows steadily for about 300 years in high altitude areas, making it one of the longest-lived evergreens. Discovered by Dr. George Engelmann, botanist, who made a suitable botanical description and placed it in the correct genus. It was originally listed as Abies Engelmanni.
They produce edible tips very rich in Vitamin C and their wood is widely used in the paper industry, in construction and for soundboards of instruments. It also has uses as a Christmas bush.
