Royal Hojari or Boswellia Sacra Essential Oil, also known as "olibanum," the name frankincense is derived from the medieval French word for "royal frankincense."
Frankincense is considered the "holy anointing oil" in the Middle East and has been used in religious ceremonies for thousands of years.
t was well known during the time of Christ for his anointing and healing powers and was one of the gifts given to Jesus at his birth. "I used to treat every conceivable evil known to man" and frankincense was valued more than gold in ancient times, possessed only by those with great wealth and abundance.
Frankincense is mentioned in one of the oldest known medical records, the Ebers Papyrus, dating back to the 16th century BC, an ancient Egyptian list of 877 recipes and prescriptions.
Not to be confused with Frankincense essential oil. These two essential oils come from frankincense resin, have similar properties and can be easy to confuse. Both essential oils come from the frankincense tree, but they belong to different species.
