Native to northern and central Europe, it is a medium-sized, fast-growing evergreen that can reach 40 meters high (131 feet) and live up to 1,000 years. It grows in acidic soils and is resistant to saline climates. It is found in places with cold climates and cool summers. It is currently distributed throughout much of North America, where it grows very commonly.

It is another of the Spruce used as a Christmas tree, due to its conoid shape. Its wood is cream colored and very strong, with a fine texture, it is widely used for furniture, beams, floors, and in the paper industry.

Like most essential oils, Spruce shares properties for relieving respiratory disorders and allergies. It is calming, cleansing, mood balancing, and helps with altered and diffuse moods.

In ointments it is very useful for muscle pain and relief of inflammation.

Not for use during pregnancy, with the elderly, infants, or if epileptic. Possible skin irritant in some individuals; dilute well.
