Lippia Javanica is native to southern and central Africa and has also been found on the Indian continent. In Africa, the decoction of the leaves has been used to treat various ailments such as: colds, coughs, fever, malaria, wounds, diarrhea, chest pains, bronchitis, asthma.

Scientific studies show that it has a wide range of pharmacological effects: antiamoebic, antidiabetic, antimalarial, antimicrobial, antioxidant, antiplasmodial and pesticide.
