Osyris Lanceolata is an African hardwood tree, which belongs to the Santalacea family, which encompasses about 1000 different species. Its natural growth habitat is Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya. Although it is also found in the southeast of Spain, where it is known as Bayon.
The tree has various uses. A strong red dye is extracted from the root, the bark is used to tan leather, it also has uses in basketry, tonics, and teas.
A precious essential oil is extracted from the wood, which has similarities with the Indian Sandalwood, both in aroma, color, consistency and chemical properties.
It contains Z-Lanceol, which is its majority compound, being 56%. 11% Santalol, in addition to Nuciferol, Epi-Alpha-Bisabolol among other compounds.
