Myrrh is one of the oldest resins known and most versatile in its use. Records dating back more than 2,800 years have been found in ancient Egypt. It is a resin that is collected from the Commiphora Myrrha tree. The resin has a high content of essential oils, gum resins composed of comiphoric acid, and other volatile substances.
It was highly valued in Antiquity, since it was one of the components for the production of perfumes, incense, ointments and to dilute ink on papyrus. It was also used to embalm the dead.
