Wildcrafted Pom Copal Resin is a fresh, highly aromatic natural resin obtained from Protium copal, a member of the Burseraceae family and a botanical relative of other celebrated incense-producing trees such as frankincense, myrrh, and elemi.
Known traditionally as Pom in Maya cultures, Protium copal has a long history of ceremonial use throughout parts of Mesoamerica, where the resin has been burned as sacred incense during rituals, offerings, purification practices, and traditional ceremonies. The word “copal” derives from the Nahuatl copalli, meaning incense.
Unlike harder, aged copals, Pom Copal is typically a fresh, soft and naturally sticky resin with a remarkably vivid aromatic profile. Its fragrance opens with bright green, citrus-like and piney notes, developing into balsamic, herbaceous and subtly spicy nuances over a warm, earthy, musky-resinous base. Some specimens display aromatic facets reminiscent of fresh elemi, lemon peel, cardamom, forest resins and humid tropical woods.
Because this is a minimally processed wildcrafted botanical material, variations in color, softness, aroma, and the presence of small natural fragments of bark or plant material are normal and part of the resin's authentic character.
